Terms and Conditions of Use


The World Higher Education Database WHED Portal (“WHED Portal”) is a Website developed and managed by the International Association of Universities (“IAU”). The following terms and conditions govern the use of the WHED Portal, and any content or information made available to, from or through this Website.

The IAU maintains the WHED Portal at https://www.whed.net as an information resource on Higher Education Institutions, Systems and Credentials to those persons and institutions that may choose to access or use the Web Site (the “Users”). The use of the WHED Portal, registration on this Website (through MyWHED) and provision to the IAU of any content shall constitute acceptance and agreement to these Terms and Conditions of Use.

Content of the WHED Portal
The WHED Portal features information on:
 Educational Systems: Pre-Higher Education System, Higher Education System, Bodies, Admission to Higher Education, Recognition of Studies, Student Life;
• Credentials: Education Level, Entrance Requirements;
 Higher Education Institutions: General Information, Officers (Head, Administrative Officers, International Relations Officer), Divisions (with Fields of Study), Degrees offered (with Fields of Study), Student Services and Facilities, Academic Periodicals, Student and Staff Numbers.

The WHED Portal has three types of Users:
 Visitors;
 IAU Members in good standing having access to MyWHED;
 Users who have a paying access to MyWHED.

Database Intellectual Property Rights
The IAU holds the intellectual property rights to the WHED Portal. The copying of all or substantial parts of the Portal is not allowed without prior consent of IAU.

Links to other websites
Links from the WHED Portal may take Users to other websites that are not controlled by the IAU. While such links are provided in good faith, the IAU does not approve or endorse the websites linked to or from the WHED Portal. Links are provided for convenience only and the IAU is not responsible for the content or privacy practices of any other website linked to or from the WHED Portal. Use of any such links will not render the IAU liable to Users or any other person for loss or liability of any kind.

Use of cookies
The IAU is committed to protecting the privacy of the Users. When Users visit the WHED Portal, the IAU uses cookies which log non-personally-identifiable information including aggregate user data and browser type. Cookies will be deleted from Users’ computers when they close their browsers. If Users do not wish to receive a cookie, or wish their browser to notify them when they receive a cookie, they may use the option on their web browser to disable cookies.
The IAU uses this data through Google Analytics to monitor and analyse patterns of usage and actual needs of Users in order to improve the WHED Portal. Google Analytics generates statistical and other information about this Website use. Google will store this information. The GDPR provides individuals with opportunities to control how personal information is being used and sets obligations.
WHED data on Higher Education systems and institutions from around the world is provided by national bodies and individual institutions.
IAU uses the data to connect stakeholders working in and on higher education around the world and to create the kind of synergies that are conducive to advance higher education partnership around the world by sharing information on higher education. Registration for MyWHED
MyWHED is the restricted area of the WHED Portal. This enhanced access provides services such as Advanced search, Exporting and Printing information from the WHED Portal. The Registration process involves creating an account with a User name and Password which the User agrees to guard as confidential information.

Disclaimer of liability
In the preparation of the WHED Portal, every effort has been made to offer the most correct and clearly expressed information possible. The information and data included on the WHED Portal has been compiled from documents provided by universities/university-level institutions, governmental agencies and academic bodies, in many languages, covering a wide range of continuously evolving systems of higher education. Every effort has been made to ensure that the entries are as comprehensive as possible and that the information is accurate and thus does not render the IAU liable to Users of possible mistakes.

Unacceptable use
Users must not use any part of the WHED Portal for any purpose which is illegal, immoral, offensive to others or in breach of others' rights, or submit any content of that nature. This includes, but is not limited to, any content or purpose which is discriminatory or harassing on the grounds of race, gender, religion, age or any other personal attribute, foul language, inciting hatred, sexually explicit, abusive, defamatory, in breach of copyright or other rights. The IAU will remove any content or communication of this kind without prior notice.

Disclaimer of reliability
While every effort is made to ensure that the WHED Portal operates reliably, the IAU makes no warranties regarding the condition or functionality of this Website, its suitability for use, or that the service it provides will be uninterrupted or error-free. 

Disclaimer of damages
By using the WHED Portal, Users assume all risks associated with its use, including any risk to their computer, software or data being damaged by any virus, software, or any other file which might be transmitted or activated via this Web Site. The IAU shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, special, incidental, or consequential damages, including, without limitation, lost revenues or lost profits, resulting from the use or misuse of the WHED Portal or the information contained in the WHED Portal.

Security of information during transmission
While IAU will exercise the maximum efforts to protect User personally-identifiable information, Users recognize and accept that data transmission over the Internet is not completely secure. Thus, the IAU does not warrant or guarantee the security of any information during transmission to and from the WHED Portal. If any breaches, theft or misuse of such information occurs during transmission, the IAU shall not be responsible or liable to Users for any damage or other consequences suffered by them.

Termination or suspension of service
The IAU may suspend or terminate access to the WHED Portal, with or without cause, at any time without prior notice, except to partners, where it would be done according to the terms of the on-going agreements.

Password protected services
MyWHED Users are responsible for the safeguarding of any information, such as passwords and user IDs needed for use of their account with IAU. The IAU will not be responsible for any consequences of such information failing to be adequately safeguarded.
MyWHED Users are required to use all endeavours to ensure against unauthorised access to the service, in particular the use of user names and passwords by unauthorised individuals. Should this be the case, the IAU may suspend MyWHED Users’ access to the WHED Portal.

Amendment of the Terms and Conditions of Use
The Terms and Conditions of Use are subject to amendment at any time in IAU’s sole discretion, without any prior notice. The IAU will, however, notify Users of any amendment to the Terms and Conditions of Use by posting them on the WHED Portal. Users continued use of the WHED Portal thereafter will be deemed as acceptance by Users of any amendments.
