History

Founded as Queen's College, Galway in 1845. Became University College,Galway (Coláiste na hOllscoile, Gaillimh) in 1908 then under the Universities Act 1997 it became the National University of Ireland, Galway (Ollscoil na hÉireann, Gaillimh) or NUI Galway for short. In 2022, the university announced that it would be renamed and it became University of Galway (Ollscoil na Gaillimhe)
