Founded 1867 as School of Bridges, Roads and Mines. Reorganized as Polytechnic School of Bucharest 1948, with some faculties detached as separate institutions. Became Universitatea Politehnica din Bucureşti (Polytechnic University of Bucharest) in 1965 and acquired current title 2023 following merger with Universitatea din Piteşti (University of Piteşti - IAU-019433) in August 2023.
